Week 3 - Grace

      1. What are your final thoughts on the research project you have been working on?

Going into the last day at PATHS-UP, I am nervous about how Sidd and I's project will be received, but largely proud of our progress and how much we have done in the past week. It took us a while to settle on an idea, and we modified it several times over the past few days, but our final product is something I am excited to present and improve in the future.

As the PATHS-UP Cohort 1 ends, my biggest hopes for our project are that it is something we can further innovate, expand, and eventually have a working prototype for an audience. We have several future plans for our project, including making a mobile app, carrying case, and a program for long-term statistics, and with the devices and lessons we have learnt from PATHS-UP, I believe these are plans we can achieve.

      2. What are you most looking forward to for the week three presentation?

I am most looking forward to seeing how Sidd and I's project will be received from an audience. We put a lot of effort into researching and coding the project, and I hope that our listeners can recognize that effort. I am also looking forward to sharpening my presentation skills through rehearsing and preparing for questions.

While I am excited for the presentation, the PATHS-UP camp ending will also be somewhat bittersweet. I have never been in an environment with teachers so willing to help, passionate guest speakers, and a large supply of different devices, and I will greatly miss conversing with the instructors on statistics, hardware, and more. However, I know I will use this experience to pursue more studies in electrical engineering, physics, and health.

      OEDK Tour

On Wednesday, we toured the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, or the OEDK. It was nice to see so many tools and resources for engineering students in one place, and the range of supplies they offered was truly impressive; they really had something for everyone. My friend was especially excited by the sewing machines and chemical equipment, while I was drawn to the electrical engineering room and laser cutters, as shown below. The various work-in-progress projects and student assistant pictures around the building created a sense of community and welcoming not often seen at institutions.
