Week 2

First Thoughts

I was very excited to begin working on our projects! I appreciate that this project is an opportunity to create something that could positively impact someone else's life. Additionally, I enjoy collaborating with my partner, Khanh. I can tell that she shares the same enthusiasm as me. 

Looking Forward To Week 3

Next week, I am looking forward to presenting my project. I will present a device for patients with Alzheimer's or dementia. A common symptom of the disease is confusion, which can potentially lead to someone becoming lost. By combining the pulse oximeter, accelerometer, GPS, and Bluetooth, I hope to create a wearable that will allow caregviers to track a patient's locations, measure their level of stress, and detect falls. 

The Clean Room

Visiting Rice's Clean Room was my favorite part of this week. I found it interesting that the room is separated by yellow and blue light. Here are some pictures below:

  Week 2 Blog 1. What are you first thoughts on the projects you have been working on? I really liked working on the Sparkfun electronics kit. My favorite projects this week were definitely Simon Says and the "Self Control Car" because of how fun they are to play with. I also liked how we continued to work with the tiny watch and added new things like the Bluetooth and the GPS. I loved how I was able to my message notifications on the Tiny Screen.   2. What are you most looking forward to in Week 3? In week 3, I'm most looking forward to designing our final project. Week 1 - Natasha Mbajonas

Week 1 Blog - Natasha M. This is what I saw in the mail during my last month of school:  Dear Natasha,   Congratulations! You have been chosen to take part in the PATHS-UP Young Scholars Digital Health program! The program will be held Mon - Thu, June 10 - June 27, 2024, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in Facilities Engineering and Planning Building, Room 102 (number 26 on the attached campus map) at  Rice  University.   Even though I was happy to participate in the program, I knew I needed preparation. So I started preparing only a few days after the email. I refreshed some of my coding skills (which are mainly in Python and Swift). Specifically, I freshened up on using Python libraries like Pandas and NumPy. I also quickly made a  few simple basic apps on Swift such as a calculator and a simple workout card game. Week 3 - Catherine

 Week 3 - Catherine Project My project is finally finished. On Monday, I finished wiring my project and the hardware components. I was able to calibrate our sensor and ensure that the components were functioning properly. Throughout the building of my project, I go to learn a lot about electrochemistry and chemistry in general. On Tuesday, I finished creating our poster and began rehearsing what I was going to say. Designing the poster took a bit as I need to fill out the Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion sections. I really liked working on the poster and practicing the presentation because I enjoy elevator pitches. Paths-UP Program I really enjoyed the program. My favorite parts were :the lectures covering machine learning and software in general; getting to play around with the Arduino; and touring various places at Rice. I feel like I got to learn a lot throughout the program. Most of what I learned was about hardware, something I had been extremely intimidated by. ...
